The next stage of tuning a typeIV based engine uses very little of the original factory parts, but the heart is still there. For an engine of this level of tuning we would only require a crankcase, crankshaft, 4 cylinders, flywheel and a pair of useable heads. We request that you supply these parts yourself in order to keep costs down but we do carry a considerable quantity of these parts. Here is a typical specification sheet for this type of build.
Crankcase chemical strip and saddle check £40

Crankshaft submerged, arc welded on big end journals, offset ground and changed to typeI style big end, stock typeI bearing size, main journals re-ground to oversize (0.25-50mm) dependant upon condition - in some cases counterweights are added to the crank, fully shot peened £550

TypeI CB Performance H beam con rods £250

Cylinders re bored to 96mm £100

Crankcase and con rod clearance £100

Keith Black 96mm piston kit £240

End to end balance after modifications to rods £85

Cylinder spacers (one off per engine) set of four £100

Gasket kit £42

Heavy duty oil pump £60

Pushrod tubes £30

Pushrods (chromolly) £55

Pushrod tube stroker spacers £65

Crankcase aluminum oil galleries plugs removed, drilled, tapped and steel inserts installed

£100

Dynamic balance on crank, flywheel, pressure plate and pulley £110

A choice of WebCam camshafts and lifter kits are available and all depend on whether you have the budget for ceramic or 2 piece good quality steel. In our 10 years plus of experience we have never had a Cam go flat but you do have to be careful with lifters these days. In previous years we used WebCam cams with Johnson lifters but sadly they are no longer available and we now use Scat 2 piece. With all the expense of stroker crankshaft and chromolly rods we would advise ceramic lifters for total piece of mind until the day we have roller cams for typIV engines.

Cylinder heads for a 2270 also come in various states of modification including 42x38, 48x38, 44x38 and 44x40. Prices start from as little as £700 and go all the way to £1550 again much is dependant on your application. A fair amount of machine work can go into just the top fin on some of our high compression engines and cylinders may also need to be machines to achieve some compression ratios. We like to use square port 78-84 heads for a 2270cc base but we have built 2270cc engines with 914 2.0l cores, VW 1800 based heads. Our square port screamers have 914 plug location welded ports and welded match ported manifolds. There is extensive port work in all our typeIV based applications. We use the factory rocker shaft assemblies from 1700cc versions that have the ability to run genuine Porsche 911 swivel head adjusters. Clearance work is required on the rockers themselves to fit but on an extremely detailed pair of the top of the range specification heads we lighten the rockers, fully polish, shot peen match weight, install one of our own spacer kits and micro polish the shafts.

2270cc induction, cooling and exhaust systems are basically the same as our 1911cc and 2056cc engines. Again we have versions of this specification fitted to all types of vehicles from Bay window vans pushing 130bhp to our own drag car dyno proven at 180bhp. Again the final specification and cost will depend on your application.

Labour for assembly + 4 hour dyno testing £1700

Full flow remote oil cooler (complete kit) £250
